Dr Emily Yassaie is a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon in the Wellington Region. She is experienced in all aspects of plastic surgery and reconstruction including facial, hand, breast, body, microsurgery, and skin surgery. She has a subspecialty interest in craniofacial surgery, including functional and cosmetic facial surgery.

Emily completed her medical degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy at the University of Otago. Prior to commencing her plastic surgical training, she refined her skills in assessment, geometry, and creation at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. After achieving certification with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), Emily was awarded international fellowships.  In Canada, through the University of British Columbia she worked with world leaders in craniofacial and cosmetic surgery. In the United Kingdom she worked at the esteemed Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, undertaking high volume paediatric craniofacial surgery. She is the most recent surgeon in over a decade to receive comprehensive craniofacial training in New Zealand and the first woman to do so.

Emily believes in a personalised approach taking into account the unique needs and circumstances of each patient. She has published and presented research internationally and ensures all patients receive exceptional care in line with the latest evidence and guidelines.

Returning to New Zealand with her husband and children, Dr Yassaie joined the Wellington Regional Plastic, Maxillofacial & Burns Unit as a consultant. She is the clinical lead for ear reconstruction and facial palsy. She loves living in one of the best cities in the world, where she enjoys hiking in the native bush, growing her own fruit and vegetables and countless hours of backyard football.
